Who invented to churro?

Some historians believe the churro originated in Spain as far back as the 16th century. Shepherds needed an easy snack while working on the plains of Castile, and the churro was born. The traditional churro recipe is as elegant as it is simple. Flour, water, and salt which are mixed together into a batter, then piped into hot oil until golden brown and crispy. Cinnamon sugar is a common churro seasoning, added while the fry oil is fresh. Spanish colonization in the 17th century brought the churro recipe to Latin America, where it soon became a staple food throughout Mexico, Peru, and other South American countries.

Although the churro is most closely associated with Spain and Latin America, there is some evidence to suggest that it may have originated in China.  According to one legend, a group of Spanish monks who were visiting China brought back the recipe for this delicious treat.  This theory is further supported by records from 15th century Chinese merchants who mention a food similar to the modern-day churro being sold in markets around Beijing.  Even today, certain types of Chinese doughnuts share many similarities with their Spanish counterparts, suggesting an ancient connection between these two cultures.
